ICT Tools
ICT in Geography Curriculum:
Interactive Whiteboard
Overview: The interactive whiteboard, which is primary located in the prime position of the front of the room, allows all student within the classroom to simultaneous access or view information and resources provided by the teacher. IWB allows teachers to introduce topics or activities, and offer opportunities for students to engage with ICT across all key curriculum areas throughout the class day. ‘Literature indicates that the integration of interactive whiteboards into the classroom can create new opportunities for student learning, through multimedia or interactive resources, and can enable more rapid transition between lessons’ (Bennett, 2008).
As the IWB has a touchable and collaborative screen, whereby you can write, draw and communicate with it, teachers and students can proactively participate in whole classroom discussions, or approaches. iPad Capabilities
Overview:The Apple iPad are smaller, lighter and portable version of a Laptops with the addition of an interactive touchpad rather than a keyboard. Wirelessly connecting to the Internet, students are able to be online with different learning communities, websites and social media. iPads and other tablets also double as e-readers, allowing the students to take their books or class room notes anywhere. Riley (2013), a University lecture in music, suggests that ‘Connecting, communicating and creating with a mobile device such as the ipad is quickly becoming a substantial part of digital literacy that can powerfully support student achievement” (Riley, 2013, p82).
iPads within the classroom environment provide teachers with an alternative avenue to present interesting and engaging learning material, to facilitate student-centered learning.
